CWU Members Lobby MPs To Defend Pensions And The Future Of Royal Mail

On Tuesday 13th October North West postal workers lobbied parliament to press the British Government to honor its manifesto pledge to the electorate and decisions of their party conference to address the Royal Mail pension deficit, together with better regulation.  We also want the government to ensure a satisfactory resolution to the Royal Mail dispute.

All North West MPs were invited to meet with postal workers in the House of Commons, with over 30 taking up the offer agreeing to meet up with their constituents and senior Regional Officials.

Carl Webb, Communication Workers Union North West Regional Secretary, said: “It was important for MPs to hear first hand the concerns that postal workers have in regard to their pensions, and the slash and burn approach of managers in the workplaces that are worsening services and alienating the workforce.

“Postal workers are also very angry at what they see as hypocrisy of Royal Mail Directors awarding themselves and local mangers massive bonuses when at the same time giving the people who deliver the profit a pay freeze along with increased workloads that in many cases are unachievable. And they wonder why postal workers have voted to take industrial action?”

Many MPs agreed to raise our concerns with the Government and support the union’s call for 3rd Party Mediation to help resolve the dispute.
