Early Day Motion 2035 – Postal Dispute

A CWU supported Member of Parliament has sponsored a new EDM on the Postal Dispute (see attached). It will be understood that there is a need for speed on this matter, both in terms of the dispute and the fact that this Parliament will be prorogued late in November, prior to the Queen’s Speech for this Government.

Geraldine Smith MP has submitted the following Early Day Motion to the House of Commons re the Royal Mail Dispute:

EDM 2035   - Postal Dispute – 13.10.09

That this House welcomes the proposals put forward by the Communication Workers Union seeking to find a resolution to the current postal dispute, in particular their offer to explore the possibility of third party mediation; and calls on the Government to do all in its power to ensure that Royal Mail responds positively to the union's proposal.

Early Day Motions - are used for reasons such as publicising the views of individual MPs, drawing attention to specific events or campaigns, and demonstrating the extent of parliamentary support for a particular cause or point of view.

It is then imperative that all branches and individual reps/members contact their MPs immediately asking them to sign and support the EDM. You can do this by either writing to them at the House of Commons or phoning the House of Commons (0207 219 3000) asking to be connected to your MPs office.

By far the quickest way to ask your MP to sign the EDM is to visit the link below and enter your postcode and follow link:

http://www.writetothem.com

........then forward this email or even better one in your own words

“I am contacting you to request that you support and sign the EDM 2035 (Postal Dispute) and help prevent a damaging dispute. Please also encourage your colleagues to do the same."

Please also ask family and friends to do the same. It only takes a few minutes.

If you do have the time also send the letter or make the phone call, or even visit your mp at their surgery.  MPs react far better to this.
