I am pleased to announce the Department is launching a new service, CWU Road Traffic Accident Helpline. The Scheme provides a range of benefits in the event that members and their family are involved in an off duty road traffic accident which was not their fault. It will replace the existing Road Assist Scheme and will operate nationwide, excluding the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands. The Scheme is designed as an alternative to using their own motor vehicle insurance. In the event of a road traffic accident members can phone a dedicated 24/7 UK based Helpline who will then immediately assist in providing a whole range of benefits which include vehicle recovery from anywhere in the UK, your accident details automatically reported to your private insurer, any vehicle repairs arranged and managed together with vehicle replacement, if appropriate, on a category like-for-like basis. In the event of any injuries sustained in the accident, claims for compensation will be handled by CWU's Panel Solicitors, with all legal fees being covered by the CWU's Legal Services Department. This free service is being provided in partnership with the CWU Legal Department, its Panel Solicitors and a motoring organisation, Accident Exchange. Members will be invited to join the Scheme by contacting www.cwu.one1one.co.uk or freephone 0800 804 6674. Further details will be published in the February 2009 issue of the Voice publication. Call us first in the event of an off duty accident, one number, 1 call, one complete service. Tony Rupa Head of Legal Services
