CWU Members Get On Their Bikes For Prevention Of Youth Suicide Charity
Knight Rider Liverpool Charity Bike Ride in Aid of PAPYRUS
CWU NW Reps Pauline McAvoy and Brian Parsons (and maybe a couple of late comers) will be embarking on a 100 km Charity Bike ride around Liverpool on the night of 15th July 2017 in aid of the Charity PAPYRUS (PREVENTION OF YOUNG SUICIDES).
General Conference Motion 9 makes for stark reading in terms of the latest suicide statistics amongst those under 35 years of age:
9 Suicide is the biggest killer of young people –
male and female – under 35 in the UK. In 2014, 597 young people between
the ages of 10 and 24 took their own lives. Under the age of 35, the number
rose to 1,556. That equates to over four per day. Every year many thousands
more attempt or contemplate suicide, harm themselves or suffer alone, afraid
to speak openly about how they are feeling.
Reported at the time on this website, below you can watch the emotional debate at this year's CWU Annual Conference:
Pauline and Brian would appreciate any sponsorship and awareness from CWU Members. Brian and Pauline are determined to do everything they can to both fund-raise and raise awareness so people can seek help and recognise that there is help out there.
