UPDATE: 27th March
The initiative below has been cancelled.
Nigel Cotgrove, CWU’s national officer dealing with iPSL has issued this statement:
"Following discussions at ACAS iPSL and the CWU have now agreed an amicable solution which resolves the immediate problem. We are still committed to keeping iPSL jobs in Bootle, and we will now be entering into talks with iPSL on the future of the site. "
Writing to all CWU North West Branches today, regional secretary Carl Webb highlights a demonstration that will take place next week, and ask for as many people as possible to attend:
"Many of you would have heard Andy Kerr speak at the Regional Conference about our members in iPSL Bootle who are facing the threat of site closure and more immediately a move to introduce compulsory redundancies for the first time.
The iPSL Bootle operation sits inside the giant Santander and employs 170 people and processes cheques for Santander, HSBC, the Post Office and other banks.
In order to highlight the situation there will be a CWU demonstration on Friday 31st March which will focus on saving the Bootle operation and keeping work on Merseyside.
It will be held at noon till 1pm outside the main gate at the Santander Centre in Bridle Road, Bootle.
Please do all you can to attend this important demo fetching branch banners. I will fetch the flags!
The CWU in the North West has a proud record of standing together when our membership is under threat. Unity is Strength!"
