Day two of Labour’s Conference in Liverpool saw commitments given via reports on the Economic Policy Commission, International Policies Commission, and Workplace 2020.
The Tories have no answers to the challenges we face other than taking the country backwards. Working people deserve better than Tory failure. Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, John McDonnell MP, set out how Labour will build a fairer economy for the future that works for all.
Policy debates took place on Trade Unions, employment policy and working terms and conditions, with Ian Lavery condemning the Trade Union Act, employment practices of companies like Sports Direct. He provided details of Workplace 2020 policies.
Len McCluskey General Secretary of Unite Trade Union
Len, spoke of the need for the party to coalesce around Jeremy Corbyn’s leader ship and answered those who opposed Jeremy saying he will never be elected and we need to win power.
Len said: “Now I’ve heard people lecture us about the futilities of principles without power. But comrades, we have also seen were poser without principles leads to. Disillusionment, disappointment, and ultimately defeat.”
To resounding he applause, he added: ” Of course, we must win power. But we must also use power for our people, for working people, …”
Barry Gardiner, Shadow Secretary of State for International Trade and Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change warned conference about the negative effects of the EU Referendum decision to leave the EU. He warned also that the Tories want international Trade Deals like TTIP and that every form of protection for working people will be given away in order to ensure the profits of international investors. He warned conference that:
“It is time to wake up to the reality that the very people claiming they are fighting for our sovereignty, are in fact the very people who are doing the most to undermine it!”

She highlighted that developement and aid is an investment in people and that unlike the Tories, Labour will never use international aid as a political football.
Condemning corruption in other countries, she said, “We cannot call other countries fantastically corrupt when their money ends up in British Tax havens, such as British Virgin Islands, Guernsey and Jersey!”
