Working people, and Trade Union Union members have everything to loose on 8th June 2017 if Theresa May is able to form a government with any form of majority!
That was the reason for this year’s CWU Annual Conference unanimously carrying of Emergency Motion 8 which committed our Trade Union to campaign for a Labour Victory on 8th June!
“If you for some reason you feel this is not worth fighting for…..
You could always do zilch and then moan when the Tory’s introduce more anti trade union legislation, sell off the NHS, make more cuts to public services and continue with their austerity programme that target the most vulnerable in our society whilst rewarding their rich friends with more tax cuts.
The choice is yours!”
Here in the North West, CWU branches, members and officials have been out ever since the snap election was called; campaigning with and for their local sitting MPs, and for the new Labour Party candidates standing for the first time in their constituencies.
In order to give a strong message out to all our members across the country to support Jeremy Corbyn and Labour throughout the General Election campaign, delegates unanimously supported a motion which called for ALL branches and ALL members to do all they can to ensure a Labour victory.
Right now with only two weeks to go, the NW Region’s Secretary, Chairperson, and Political Officers have emailed all NW Branches urging support for a number of marginal seat campaigns this week.
In their message, they make it quite clear just what the stakes are and how important it is for all Officers and members to rally behind the Union’s call for promotion of the Labour Party, and the leader Jeremy Corbyn.
The email subject embodies just what our great Union is campaigning for in supporting the Labour Party led by Jeremy Corbyn:
CWU – Campaigning For A Fairer Country
For those CWU representatives and activists wanting to see:
· Royal Mail renationalised
· Significant public investment to rolling out superfast and ultrafast broadband
· The setting up of a Post Bank and a halt to the Crown Office closure programme
· A comprehensive package of enhanced trade union and employment rights, including the abolition of the agency workers loophole
· The maintenance of the ‘triple lock’ for the state pension
· Improvements to education and the safeguarding of the NHS
· Increased policing, increased border guards and more firefighters………then please carry on reading this email.
On Tuesday 30th and Friday 2nd June the CWU North West will be focusing our GE campaign activity 0n two of our CWU supported constituencies:
Blackpool South – Gordon Marsden
Meet at: 293 Church Street, Blackpool, FY1 3PF – from 10am onwards
Wirral South – Alison McGovern
Meet at: 57 New Chester Road Wirral CH63 4RA – from 10am onwards
The Labour manifesto sets out represents a radical agenda for government which reflects many CWU policies and campaigns. With commitments on public ownership, collective bargaining, tackling inequality and public investment to rebalance the economy, this election represents a once in a generation opportunity to shift the balance of forces in the UK.
If you for some reason you feel this is not worth fighting for…..
You could always do zilch and then moan when the Tory’s introduce more anti trade union legislation, sell off the NHS, make more cuts to public services and continue with their austerity programme that target the most vulnerable in our society whilst rewarding their rich friends with more tax cuts.
The choice is yours!
If you can’t make any of the above days then don’t worry you can always just turn up when you have a free hour or so.
